Small Bites – Episode 58

Craving your weekly fix of Small Bites with Glenn Gross and Derek Timm of Bluejeanfood.com on Wildfire Radio? Don't fret my friend because this Sunday, August 6th at 635pm we have a great show lineup for you. Joining us in studio will be #Chef Ed Crochet of Rat's Restaurant at Grounds For Sculpture. Philadelphia's renowned Starr Events is pleased to announce that Ed Crochet has been named Executive Chef at Rat’s Restaurant at Grounds For Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ. Crochet will also oversee all of Grounds For Sculpture’s food services in his new role.

A graduate of L'Academie de Cuisine Culinary School, Crochet worked in the kitchens of Tom Colicchio’s Crafted Hospitality before joining the Starr Restaurants team at Storico at the New-York Historical Society. He brings his vast culinary experience to Rat's, a French-focused restaurant famous for its unique setting within the 42-acre sculpture park. Rat’s was conceptually designed to be reminiscent of Claude Monet’s beloved Giverny by sculptor Seward Johnson. It is named after the gregarious character "Ratty," from Kenneth Grahame's famed children’s story, The Wind in the Willows. The restaurant patio, noted for its sweeping views and al fresco dining, overlooks a lily pond framed by weeping willows, and the “Monet bridge.”

Chef Crochet’s quickly rose through the ranks from line cook to sous chef, executive sous chef, chef de cuisine, and finally to Executive Chef. His strong kitchen management skills and leadership have been perfected at renowned New York City cultural landmarks, including Carnegie Hall and Citadel. Today, Ed looks to Italy for cooking inspiration. He travels there frequently to inspire his use of hyper-seasonal ingredients and simple executions of his vegetable-forward dishes. Wow, we can't wait.

Then we welcome Job Itzkowitz the Executive Director of Old City District in studio to talk about Old City Eats Thursday Specials. Old City, Philadelphia showcases its thriving dining scene with the return of #OldCityEats! Old City Eats offerings are designed to appeal to neighborhood locals, to business people looking to enjoy sips with their co-workers, and to visiting tourists exploring America’s most historic square mile. This year, Old City Eats is sponsored by Penn Beer Sales & Service and Faber Easy Drinking Liquors.

Also joining us is Chef Deepa Thomas. Chef Deepa will talk to us about her new book "Deepa's Secrets: Slow Carb New Indian Cuisine" from Skyhorse Publishing, Inc. Publishing, Inc. and all proceeds from the book will go to FoodCorps. The book is a journey from old traditions to modern Indian cooking with deliciously simple and gut-healing recipes that leave you feeling fulfilled—rather than full. We can't wait!
