Vaughn Johnson (@VaughnMJohnson) and Nick Piccone (@nickpiccone) return to discuss a VERY BUSY TWO WEEKS in professional wrestling.

Eric Bischoff is OUT as Executive Director of SmackDown, and done with WWE. He is being replaced by Bruce Prichard. How did that happen? Why did that happen?

How did RAW and SmackDown fare in the WWE Draft?

Both AEW and NXT ratings were down in Week 2 of the Wednesday Night War. Why?

Vaughn Johnson (@VaughnMJohnson) and Nick Piccone (@nickpiccone) watch NXT on the USA Network live as they discuss Bray Wyatt's Fiend character and if it's really groundbreaking. Why is it so popular right now? Are we overhyping its popularity?

The discussion then moves to whether or not we are on the precipice of another boom period in wrestling. Is this the same type of boom period we saw in 1998 and 1999? Is more television programs a boom period? Or is it more the mainstream factor? The guys discuss all that and more on Episode 212!

Vaughn Johnson (@VaughnMJohnson) and Nick Piccone (@nickpiccone) discuss NXT's debut on the USA Network and its rating. Was it good or bad? What will AEW's debut on TNT look like in terms of ratings?

The guys also discuss Brock Lesnar vs. Kofi Kingston for the WWE Championship being official for the first SmackDown on FOX. Will Brock win? What can WWE do that's newsworthy enough and not give Brock the title?

Bray Wyatt is also challenging Seth Rollins for the Universal Championship inside Hell in a Cell. There's no way he loses, right?

Right?

Vaughn Johnson (@VaughnMJohnson) and Nick Piccone (@nickpiccone) discuss the move of NXT to the USA Network beginning September 18 and becoming a live television program to go head-to-head with AEW weekly.

For the fans who wanted a wrestling war, they got it. And, there's a lot of them. Of course, when someone gets what they want, sometimes they second-guess exactly what they wanted and begin to regret it. There's not much difference regarding this.

AEW also announced TV tapings for October 23 and October 30 in Pittsburgh (Petersen Events Center on the University of Pittsburgh campus) and Charleston, West Virginia (Charleston Coliseum), respectively. They're selling out their TV taping venues, which is great. But where will they be in one year? Running the same venues? Bigger venues? What's the goal and for how long?

Vaughn Johnson (@VaughnMJohnson) and Nick Piccone (@nickpiccone) discuss how the crowd in Toronto reacted to Kofi Kingston and Randy Orton this past Sunday at SummerSlam, which was parroted by some people who said Kofi Kingston's reign has been boring and it's time for a new champion.

The guys discuss Kofi's reign and why it's not boring, and also why it's one of the best title reigns in recent WWE history. Also, when is it time to decide a new champion is needed?

And King of the Ring is back! The tournament will take place over the next few weeks on RAW and SmackDown Live, with the Finals at WWE's Clash of Champions pay-per-view in September. What are some names you think will be in the tournament and have a good chance to win? And will it mean anything?

But first, we send our thoughts to the Philadelphia Police Department.

Vaughn Johnson (@VaughnMJohnson) and Nick Piccone (@nickpiccone) discuss the legendary career of Harley Race, who passed away last week. What moments and memories stood out to you?

The guys then discuss AEW coming to Philly on October 16 for a TV taping. But they're not heading to the Wells Fargo Center, they're heading to the site of TNA's 2011 Bound For Glory pay-per-view spectacular... the Liacouras Center. Nick talks about why this sort of leaves a bad impression on him while Vaughn tries to make sense of it since, you know, AEW is a brand-new company and selling out large arenas probably isn't as easy as it seems.

Then the guys close out the show by previewing SummerSlam and NXT TakeOver: Toronto.

Vaughn Johnson (@VaughnMJohnson) and Nick Piccone (@nickpiccone) live commentate one of the best wrestling matches in SummerSlam history as Bret "The Hitman" Hart defends the WWF Championship against his brother, Owen Hart, in a Steel Cage Match at SummerSlam 1994 in Chicago. Earlier in the year at WrestleMania X, Owen pinned Bret in the middle of the ring, so this was Owen's second chance to not only beat his brother again, but become WWF Champion.

We live commentate the interviews leading up to the match as it was a family affair at ringside as the British Bulldog returned to the WWF as a spectator with Jim Neidhart not lurking far behind.

We also take a look at one of the worst thrown together segments in WWE TV history this past week on SmackDown where someone tried to kill Roman Reigns? Maybe?

Vaughn Johnson (@VaughnMJohnson) and Nick Piccone (@nickpiccone) discuss the bubble that hardcore wrestling fans often find themselves in. After RAW Reunion, is it possible that reaching to the casual audience is actually more important than reaching to the hardcore base? Has the hardcore base already turned on WWE completely? We talk about a phenomenon known as "The Wrestling Bubble" and whether it's good to pop that bubble sometimes to get a view of the bigger picture.

Before that discussion, we touch on AEW officially announcing, via press release, that they'll debut on TNT on Wednesday, October 2. Should be a big week of pro wrestling news, as SmackDown is set to move to FOX on Friday, October 4. We'll talk about expectations for AEW and how much, if any, other programming that runs against it will affect its first night numbers.

Vaughn Johnson (@VaughnMJohnson) and Nick Piccone (@nickpiccone) discuss the things both SmackDown Executive Director Eric Bischoff and RAW Executive Director Paul Heyman can do to make their brands better. What can they do to stand out?

The guys discuss in detail SmackDown's move to FOX especially, and what Bischoff can do with his program, given the freedom [hopefully], to make it what FOX visualizes it is.

Vaughn was at Jim Ross' and Conrad Thompson's live show this past weekend in Philly before Extreme Rules. He talks about the show and has some poignant thoughts on Jim Ross. The guys also discuss their thoughts on WWE's Extreme Rules pay-per-view, AEW's Fight For The Fallen show, and also EVOLVE 131.

Vaughn Johnson (@VaughnMJohnson) and Nick Piccone (@nickpiccone) discuss the weird confrontation at a Blink 182 concert between Enzo Amore and Joey Janela. The video doesn't show much, but it was the talk of Wrestling Twitter this week.

That got Vaughn and Nick thinking... who would you take in a real fight? The guys list their favorites of the current crop in pro wrestling as to who would win a real fight against anyone, not just other pro wrestlers. If you're involved in a bar fight (hopefully you're not), who would you want fighting alongside you?

After that discussion, Vaughn and Nick run down this weekend's big pro wrestling shows in EVOLVE 131, AEW's Fight for the Fallen, and WWE's Extreme Rules, and give their take on what match(es) they're looking forward to the most on each of those cards.

Pay attention to when some huge NBA news breaks during the podcast, which is probably about the 8th time that's happened.

The guys also discuss whether or not WWE can continue with adult-oriented themes in 2019, even if they don't go as far as the Attitude Era in the late 90s did. Will they gain fans by shifting the storylines like they did in the 90s? Will lapsed fans come back? The guys discuss their thoughts on it all.

And at the end, the guys run down the blocks for the NJPW G1 Climax and give their prediction on who'll walk away the victor of pro wrestling's most grueling tournament.

Vaughn Johnson (@VaughnMJohnson) and Nick Piccone (@nickpiccone) take on a myriad of topics this week, the biggest being the bombshell announced by WWE on Thursday morning. Eric Bischoff and Paul Heyman are back working for Vince McMahon, and each of them will be controlling one of WWE's television shows. Bischoff will run SmackDown as its Executive Director, and Heyman will be running RAW with the same title.

What exactly will the Executive Directors do? According to the WWE.com article, Bischoff and Heyman "will oversee the creative development of WWE’s flagship programming and ensure integration across all platforms and lines of business. The creation of these roles further establishes WWE’s ability to continuously reinvent its global brand while providing two distinct creative processes for its flagship shows."

Two distinct creative processes... but what will that entail in the long run? Nick and Vaughn discuss the possibilities but also some harsh realities that many might be looking past. After all, they're still answering to Vince McMahon. And where does this leave Triple H?

From there, the guys discuss the beef between WWE Universal Champion Seth Rollins and IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion, Will Ospreay. Rollins tweeted before the WWE Stomping Grounds pay-per-view that the company he works for has the best wrestling on the planet. Period. Ospreay took exception to Rollins intimating nobody could touch him in the ring. And wrestling fans who wanted a war are now upset.

WWE also made a move to broadcast the EVOLVE 131 10th anniversary show in Philly on July 13 on the WWE Network. It would probably be looked at as awesome for everyone that works for EVOLVE and WWN since they have begun a relationship with WWE, but not everyone was happy about it, including AEW's Kenny Omega. That's because AEW is running a charity event, Fight for the Fallen, the same night in Jacksonville.

The guys discuss their thoughts on that and if it really affects the charitable aspect of AEW's show.

This week, Vaughn Johnson (@VaughnMJohnson) and Nick Piccone (@nickpiccone) react to AEW's DOUBLE OR NOTHING pay-per-view. What was good? What was great? Was there anything bad? The ring ropes and turnbuckles were great! The guys discuss their thoughts on the show and what to look forward to come the summer.

Then, the guys dive deep into Jon Moxley's appearance on Talk Is Jericho [you can listen to the entire interview here]. Moxley let loose on Vince McMahon and the creative ineptitude that WWE has right now. Vaughn and Nick discuss Moxley's comments on how ridiculous his promos were written, how he approached Vince McMahon many times throughout his six years there, the moment he decided he was going to leave, and a lot more.

The episode rounds out with a quick NXT TakeOver XXV preview.

This week, Vaughn Johnson and Nick Piccone discuss AEW's television deal with TNT in great detail. After almost 20 years, professional wrestling will return to the Turner network in Fall 2019. What does this mean for pro wrestling? What type of rating should AEW aim for in the beginning? What about within the first year? What night will their show be on? Will TNT help AEW by giving them lead-in slots to NBA games? All those questions are answered and more during the in-depth discussion.

Before that, Vaughn and Nick discuss the untimely death of Ashley Massaro. Formerly of WWE, and apparently working towards a wrestling comeback, Massaro died Thursday at the age of 39. The guys their thoughts and memories of Massaro.

Tweet This week, Vaughn Johnson (@VaughnMJohnson) and Nick Piccone (@nickpiccone) discuss just how creatively bankrupt WWE is right now. With the Superstar Shake-Up happening just a few weeks ago, Vince McMahon basically decided to undo what his company did on RAW and SmackDown and introduced a "Wild Card" rule, allowing 4 RAW superstars to show up on SmackDown and vice versa.   The hell?   The guys discuss the decision to do this, why WWE is struggling right now to pull in good ratings, and what the future might hold before SmackDown heads to FOX in October.   The conversation then moves to Lio Rush, who made headlines last week. He wants to be paid more. Who doesn't? He doesn't want to carry someone else's bags. Who would? Rush gave his side of the story to Fightful, so Vaughn and Nick explore everything surrounding that situation and give their opinions on the matter.   And Lars Sullivan is a bigot? Old posts have re-surfaced and it doesn't paint one of the newest main roster additions in a good light. The guys discuss how WWE should basically cut bait with a dude whose character really isn't that special to begin with.

Tweet This week, Vaughn Johnson (@VaughnMJohnson) and Nick Piccone (@nickpiccone) discuss Jon Moxley (now formerly Dean Ambrose) and his future. Mere minutes after his WWE contract expired, Moxley posted a video on Twitter that got many people hyped. Is he AEW bound? The guys discuss Moxley's possibilities.   The duo also discusses Bill Goldberg, Brock Lesnar, and The Undertaker being advertised for their Saudi Arabia show in June. Are we getting Goldberg vs. Lesnar again?   The discussion then shifts to PPV names. One of the guys' favorite topics, Vaughn and Nick help WWE put together their entire yearly PPV schedule with the best wrestling PPV names possible. Days ago, WWE Stomping Grounds was officially named as a June PPV, so the duo fights the good fight against terrible PPV names. Tweet This week, Nick and Vaughn discuss the fallout of the WWE Superstar Shake-Up on both RAW and SmackDown Live now that we've had the first two shows of the new brands since the talent exchange.   What's the deal with The Viking Raiders and all the name changes? The Viking Experience? Really? What was wrong with War Raiders? The guys discuss that issue and why names absolutely mean something regardless of how "marketable" people think certain names are or aren't.   They also discuss Sasha Banks and her future with WWE. Will she be back? Why it was such a big deal to her regarding the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships and why a move to another company (*cough* AEW *cough*) could be the best possible move for her.   Or maybe a SummerSlam return to feud with Becky Lynch? Hmmm...   The guys end the show with a detailed discussion about WWE's ratings woes, why they do mean something, why they don't mean something, and what it means for FOX in the future regarding SmackDown moving to the network in October 2019.

But before that, they begin with a discussion on some news bits as Jim Ross agrees to a massive deal with All Elite Wrestling, the Usos sign extensions with WWE, and Rob Van Dam signs with Impact Wrestling.

Tweet Vaughn (@VaughnMJohnson) and Nick (@nickpiccone) are joined by the good brother Sawyer on this week's episode, which begins with a look at KOFIMANIA!
That's right... Kofi Kingston's teammates in Xavier Woods and Big E helped propel him into the WWE Championship match at WrestleMania against Daniel Bryan after outlasting each team in a Gauntlet Match on this week's SmackDown Live. The guys discuss Kofi's ascent into the title picture and if he'll ultimately walk out of WrestleMania with the WWE Championship.   Then the talk shifts to the newest SmackDown Women's Champion... Charlotte Flair! Despite already being penned into the WrestleMania main event for the RAW Women's Championship, Flair defeated Asuka by submission on SmackDown to win the SmackDown Women's Championship. Any rhyme or reason? Just a photo op? Will Flair hold onto the title for the long haul? The guys discuss the curious decision to put the title back on her heading into WrestleMania.   The episode ends with an all-encompassing look at all of the women's matches in WrestleMania history to show just how far we've come from the first WrestleMania to today. It's quite a look back at some matches we'd like to forget, and even some we should remember fondly.

Tweet Some high-profile NXT talents made their main rosters debut this week... but why?   In what seemed more like a showcase rather than integrating these guys into the main roster, Aleister Black, Ricochet, Johnny Gargano and NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa appeared on both RAW and SmackDown Live this week, and were booked pretty strongly. But what was the purpose? What does this mean for future NXT call-ups?   And speaking of NXT call-ups, that's what the majority of this week's show is about. Vaughn Johnson (@VaughnMJohnson) and Nick Piccone (@nickpiccone) run down the history of the NXT call-ups and talk in-depth about them. Which ones hit? Which ones missed? Which ones completely failed? Which ones have been major successes? They even talk about the ones who aren't even with the company anymore.   You can also subscribe to The Straight Shooters on the following platforms: Apple Podcasts (please rate and review us!), StitcherGoogle PlaySpreakerSpotifyiHeartRadioTuneIn RadioSoundCloudPlayer FM and wherever else you get your podcasts!

Tweet Becky Lynch was suspended for 60 days by Vince McMahon, and was replaced by Charlotte Flair in the main event of WrestleMania 35 against Ronda Rousey.   This got some heated reactions. But why? Why's creating an interesting storyline between the Rumble and Mania being a bad thing? Vaughn Johnson (@VaughnMJohnson) and Nick Piccone (@nickpiccone) discuss the angle, why people are getting legitimately upset about it, and how everyone will react when Lynch returns to the story.   Before that, the guys quickly run down the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view this weekend and give their predictions on the event.    Jay White is the new IWGP Heavyweight Champion, and AEW's Double or Nothing show sold out in just 4 minutes. With WWE needed to string out the story for two months, Becky Lynch was suspended in storyline this past week. It sure seems like Charlotte Flair will eventually be added to the Lynch/Rousey match at WrestleMania to make it a Triple Threat.

But Nick and Vaughn differ on whether that's a good or bad thing. Listen to their in-depth discussion about why Nick thinks adding Charlotte to the match could be a good thing while Vaughn thinks it should remain a one-on-one bout between Lynch and Rousey.

The guys also discuss possible WWE defections to AEW amid growing disinterest in their characters, and some terrible WWE nicknames from the present and past.

Tweet It's been an eventful week in the world of professional wrestling, so Nick Piccone and Vaughn Johnson hit a myriad of topics this week.

First, Dean Ambrose notified WWE he wouldn't be renewing with the company and will finish up in April. That leaves it to the imagination of where he could wind up, or if he even goes to another company. He could decide to hang up the boots. He could decide to try out for the NFL (eh, not really.)

What Would Dean Do? Nick and Vaughn discuss the options Ambrose has outside of WWE and whether or not he'll find himself back in WWE in the future. They also discuss the release of Hideo Itami and The Revival and Mike Bennett/Maria Kanellis also asking for their releases.

They also discuss Daniel Bryan's new eco-friendly WWE Championship belt and how it might mean an extended run for Bryan, Charlotte Flair possibly still being inserted into Becky Lynch vs. Ronda Rousey with the way this past week's television was booked, Jake Hager's MMA debut for Bellator and more!

Tweet The 2019 Royal Rumble pay-per-view event is shaping up to be a great one on paper. Will it deliver on screen on Sunday, January 27th?    The THIRD MAN! Brian Isley joins the show after a long respite to help Nick and Vaughn run down the Rumble pay-per-view and give you predictions on what they think will happen.    But before that, Nick (@nickpiccone) and Vaughn (@VaughnMJohnson) discuss how people killed WWE over their Twitter reveal this past Sunday for some of the participants in the Women's Royal Rumble Match and just how weird all of the backlash was. It's not like WWE hasn't set the precedence for doing this in the past, so the Shooters talk about why the anger towards this was misplaced.

Tweet Vaughn Johnson (@VaughnMJohnson) and Nick Piccone (@nickpiccone) discuss the latest in the WWE Universe. WWE decided to shake up the Universal Championship Match at the Royal Rumble, as now it will be Finn Bálor instead of Braun Strowman challenging "The Beast" Brock Lesnar in Phoenix on the 27th. The guys discuss their thoughts on the sudden change and what they think could happen.

The WWE Women's Tag Team Championships were unveiled this week, and it was announced that they will be decided inside the Elimination Chamber in February. Three tag teams from RAW and three tag teams from SmackDown will compete to crown the first (of this era) WWE Women's Tag Team Champions. Nick and Vaughn discuss that and what could happen moving forward with seemingly only one set of Women's Tag Titles instead of two.

The guys also discuss the possibility of Ronda Rousey eventually turning heel. Will it be good for her? Should it happen eventually, or will WWE keep her a babyface?

205 Live was moved back to Tuesdays at 10pm on the WWE Network? Why? The crowd was much better when it was being taped before SmackDown Live and airing on Wednesdays. The guys discuss why putting it back on Tuesdays at 10pm is the wrong move.

Then, the guys talk about their biggest Royal Rumble surprises. And this just isn't in the Royal Rumble match itself... they're talking the entire event in general. So let them know which surprises they may have missed out on, or just simply relive those moments with them!

Former WWE creative writer Jimmy Jacobs sparked a conversation about writing a television show this past week in response to the criticism of how RAW's ratings have fallen off a cliff recently. With RAW setting record lows almost every single week, Jacobs thought that he should stick up for the creative writers that probably more often than not get their good ideas shot down.

Tweet Before her big match against Ronda Rousey, Becky Lynch suffered a "broken face" at the hands of Nia Jax Monday night during a brawl. Now with Charlotte Flair taking Lynch's spot, does this mean we're on track for a Rousey vs. Lynch match at WrestleMania? If Lynch's injuries are severe enough to have her drop the SmackDown Women's Championship, will WWE put her in position to pick up where she left off when she returns?   And what does this mean for Nia Jax? She's getting a huge amount of blame for this, but does she deserve it?   Along with that big storyline, Daniel Bryan turned heel and won the WWE Championship on Tuesday night, defeating AJ Styles after kicking him in the gonads. Then he proceeded to whoop up on him after he won. What does this mean for Bryan moving forward? Is this just a shakeup for Survivor Series due to losing the Rousey/Lynch match, which was built tremendously? Does Bryan have a chance of defeating Brock Lesnar?   We then preview the entire Survivor Series card and NXT TakeOver: WarGames card. It's gonna be a hell of a weekend!

Happy Halloween! This week, we're live commentating the Chamber of Horrors Match from Halloween Havoc 1991! Someone's going to get electrocuted! It's one of the best worst matches in wrestling history, so join us on this momentous occasion and follow along on the WWE Network at the 3:40 mark of Halloween Havoc 1991.

But before we have fun, we discuss a very serious issue with WWE deciding to go through with their Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia. Some pointed words from Vaughn Johnson and Nick Piccone as they discuss not only WWE's decision to continue with the event as planned, but making Hulk Hogan the host for the event.

Yikes.

Roman Reigns revealed this past Monday night that he's battling leukemia for the second time in his life. It was a shocking revelation as he relinquished the Universal Championship. The guys discuss the announcement and give their thoughts on the situation.

Then they discuss the resulting heel turn by Dean Ambrose, who turned on Seth Rollins moments after the duo captured the RAW Tag Team Championships.

They also preview WWE Evolution, WWE's all-women's pay-per-view which takes place this Sunday from the Nassau Coliseum.

The guys end the show with an update relating to the Crown Jewel event.

Following the reported murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi by Saudi Arabian government officials, many have been imploring WWE to either cancel or move their November 2nd Crown Jewel event, currently scheduled to take place in King Saud University Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

As of this recording, WWE's only public acknowledgement of the scandal involving the Saudi government is a statement saying, "We are currently monitoring the situation." They've completely scrubbed any mention of Saudi Arabia from their television shows in the build to Crown Jewel, but haven't canceled the event yet.

Nick and Vaughn discuss what exactly WWE should do in the wake of this scandal and possible ramifications of going through with the event in Saudi Arabia.

Tweet WWE RAW had a "modern era" record-low rating this past week (9/24/18) of 2.46 million viewers, according to Dave Meltzer. But what does this number really mean in today's television watching habits?   The guys discuss the reasons for the decline and if it really means WWE as a global brand is in trouble. Despite signing record television deals this past year, will the low ratings have an effect on the company in the long-term?    Nick and Vaughn also discuss how the social media aspect of WWE's programming today supplements almost everything we see on television week in and week out. So do the low ratings really mean fans are tuning completely out?   Listen to The Straight Shooters every Friday at 2:00 P.M. WWE and Impact Wrestling officials reportedly met with each other last week. Nothing was reported on the discussions, but it has to be good to have open lines of communication between the two organizations. Nick and Vaughn discuss the possibilities to come out of the meeting and if the meeting will result in future changes.

205 Live officially moved to Wednesday night this week, slotted at 7 P.M. on the WWE Network before NXT. Will the move benefit the show? Will WWE keep it in that spot for a while? The guys discuss.

And WWE announced this week a second premiere event to take place in Saudi Arabia in November... this time, it's Crown Jewel. The guys discuss the show and what we can expect to see since there's currently one match confirmed.

And don't miss a nod to a future live commentary around Survivor Series time... we think we got it down.

Tweet At SummerSlam, Becky Lynch turned heel on Charlotte Flair. Or that's what WWE wants you to believe. However, the reception Lynch got from the Brooklyn crowd not only on Sunday night, but also on Tuesday night's SmackDown Live certainly didn't seem like Lynch became a heel.   The Shield returned in its finest form, preventing Braun Strowman from cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase against Roman Reigns on Monday Night RAW. But both The Shield and Strowman are faces... right?   In today's WWE, it's hard to tell exactly how they want us to react because there's rarely any nuance in terms of characters. So this week, Nick and Vaughn discuss those specific instances as well as SummerSlam weekend and try to make sense of these storylines that, in most cases, the live audience doesn't want to react to in the way WWE wants them to.

Tweet It seems like it's been forever, but Daniel Bryan and The Miz will finally square off inside the ring at SummerSlam after what seems like an eternity of a fantastic build for this rivalry.

Vaughn, Nick and Brian take a look at the genesis of the Bryan-Miz story and the events that have led up to their one-on-one match at SummerSlam - one of the most highly-anticipated matches in recent memory. Yes, they talk about the story's beginning in NXT, The Miz being Bryan's "pro," Bryan overcoming the odds, the promo on Talking Smack, Bryan's retirement and then un-retirement and more on this week's episode.

Tweet There were several deaths connected to the world of professional wrestling this week, so we start off the show by giving our thoughts on those who passed.   Cedric Alexander and Tye Dillinger had some old tweets crop up and haunt them this week. We talk about why social media accountability, especially as an adult, is needed right now.   Then we discuss the Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns rivalry, and everything that's been terrible about it. Why is WWE continuing to give us this rivalry when nobody wants to see it?

WWE officially announced an all-women's pay-per-view this past week on Monday Night RAW set for October 28th of this year. It was a ground-breaking announcement, and Stephanie McMahon was, of course, there to announce it.

Nick and Vaughn discuss the implications of the all-women's pay-per-view, what it means for the current talent, the future talent, if WWE will continue to do all-women's events, and more. What are the possible matches? Will Ronda Rousey headline the event in a one-on-one or maybe a multi-women match? The guys discuss and give their thoughts.

They also touch on Hulk Hogan, who was welcomed back into the WWE fold the day of the Extreme Rules pay-per-view in Pittsburgh. The New Day and Titus O'Neil released statements about what they thought about Hogan's speech to the locker room that day. Vaughn gives a very detailed response to Hogan's return, and what this could mean for the WWE moving forward from issues like this.

In the spirit of the Fourth of July, Vaughn and Nick decided to live commentate one of the most patriotic matches WWE put on. The guys live commentate the main event of SummerSlam 1993, where Lex Luger challenged the WWF Champion, Yokozuna. Lex Luger was a newly turned babyface and bodyslammed Yokozuna on the U.S.S. Intrepid on the Fourth of July that year, precipitating this match.

We begin the live commentary around the 2:10:00 mark of SummerSlam 1993 on the WWE Network.

But before that, the guys discuss some recent news bits, including Ring of Honor, New Japan's United States shows and more.

Tweet Vaughn and Nick discuss the current state of professional wrestling in this week's episode of The Straight Shooters. Off the heels of WWE announcing their new television deals set to begin in Fall 2019, the guys discuss the entire wrestling industry as a whole and how it fits in with today's era compared to previous eras.   Will New Japan eventually rival WWE worldwide? Will Ring of Honor take a step up? Will Impact Wrestling try to become a formidable number two again in the U.S.? What will the advent of NXT UK mean for the other promotions in that part of the world?   All these questions and more are discussed on Episode 154!

Brian Isley re-joins the panel as the third man as the trio discusses some of the hot topics in the world of professional wrestling.

First, Vaughn, Nick and Brian reminisce about the life and career of Leon White, better known to wrestling fans as Vader (or Big Van Vader). Earlier in the week, the big man passed away at the age of 63 due to ongoing health issues. The guys discuss their thoughts on the career of Vader and his impact on the wrestling business from early on in his career, to his days in WCW with great matches against Sting and a slew of others, to his days in the WWF as The Mastodon and his career after leaving the company. They also talk about his appearances on "Boy Meets World" as both a wrestler from WCW and WWF, which was pretty unique back in the day.

The guys briefly discuss All-In and Cody Rhodes' and The Young Bucks' decision to agree to a licensing deal to broadcast the show. On what platform will they broadcast? They talk about it.

WWE blocking Ring of Honor from running an event at Madison Square Garden? Talk about petty. But it's nothing the guys didn't see coming. They discuss the report that Ring of Honor was blocked by WWE from running MSG and if that means WWE is planning a MSG show of their own down the road during WrestleMania 35 weekend, or any other upcoming dates.

Big Cass was unceremoniously released from WWE and not even wished luck on his future endeavors. What happened? What went wrong? The guys talk about it, including the revelation that Carmella is the last one standing from their previous trio of Enzo/Cass/Carmella in NXT.

Ronda Rousey has proven her worth inside the ring and out. She wrestled a great match against Nia Jax at Money in the Bank, and had another awesome showing on Raw the night after before "being suspended" for 30 days. Powerbombing Alexa Bliss through a table was clearly a sign that Rousey's days as Raw Women's Champion are closer than we think, according to Nick. The guys discuss her progress and how good she's gotten in such a short time both on the mic, which was the glaring weakness upon her debut, to in the ring, which hasn't been a weakness yet.
